Emptiness

Emptiness, an incandescent body of water,
reflects things in myself.
Nothing more than me sitting here
looking down into my self.

Ripples of water like sonorous thunder
shatter thoughts, break my
timid, sedate self-consciousness.

Water calms, I find myself once more
in that translucent mere.
A permeable image of me.
Behind myself I find you with pebbles,
little truths in hand,
keeping my mind ajar.
Throwing out the image
I thought
I once saw.

Gazing still into
that liquid mirror,
I peer deeper to see a man,
with passion, love, ambition.

Those stones, little pieces of you,
skipped across my world for moments of time
cause tidal waves
in the ocean of me.

New perception,
I’ve found the buried truth.
Without those stones, without you
I’d still be looking at an image
I thought
I once saw

All I had was emptiness
those pieces of you
thrown into me
make me whole.
