New Project

Hello everyone,

sorry for not posting much over the past week and a half. I have been extremely bored and have not had much to talk about or say. This however, has changed slightly.

I have started a new web project!!! Hurray. I really enjoying programing and designing for the world wide web. My new project is a e-commerce store selling hilarious t-shirts with pop culture and general funny sayings. This site will be completely custom. I will use paypal to do all processing of payments (once I actually get the t-shirt’s made which might be late in the year). The shopping cart, user registration, emailed reciepts, orders, order update, order processing, and order retrival; well the whole rest of the site, will be custom from the ground up. This means lots of php and mysql stuff, and lots of fun for ME! It shall be a good learning experience as it will involve more mysql statements than I have previously used, plus those statements will become quite complex as I would like to make this system as secure as possible. The name of the store will be El Millipedo, which looks spanish, but really isn’t. For now, if you wish, you can check out the site and the progress as I make it at:
http://www.elmillipedo.inter-techpc.com

The t-shits on the site now are just mock-ups, but they will look similair to what you see, only cleaner and with better edges.

Well that is all for now, hope you like the site and if you have any comments about it, please please let me know. Thanks!

Too Long

Wow, it has been nearly 3 months and I still have yet to find a job. Either I really suck, or Bloomington’s job market is very very terrible. I’m not quite sure how i’m surviving considering that I spent my last two dollars on bread sometime early last week. Life is utterly crazy, crazy I tell you, crazy.

In the mean time I try to live and not be bored. This is especially hard when you do not have a job, and do not have money. Alas, I am trying very hard. I am trying to do more athletic things, like basketball, frisbee, biking, running like a mad man down the street at 3:00am towards the hordes of drunk students, stuff like that.

I am also on week two of my program to step off of Lexapro. My doctor and I designed a program so that I would take 10mg of Lexapro one day, 5mg the next day. This would go on for one week. Then I would take just 5mg of Lexapro everyday for one week [that is this week!], and next week I will take just 5mg of Lexapro every other day. That means by July 6th I will completely be off of my medication, Hurray!!! This is just a trial to see how things go, but so far things are ok. The first day I took just 5mg of Lexapro I had lots of crazy unexplainable emotions. I wanted to cry for no reason in the middle of the Alley Cat [a broadripple bar]. Things have since gotten better and I really can’t tell much of difference in my emotions from one dosage to the next. This seems very good for me and might mean that my body can now produce enough Serotonin on its very own! Though nothing will be completely sure until about two weeks after the Lexapro is completely out of my body. So July will be interesting, and I should know for sure by Aug wether or not I will need to take medication for the rest of my natural life. Let us hope not.

Pictured Blues Released!

Finally. I have completed the first release of my newest theme called Pictured Blues. This is a two column theme based lightly on the prebuilt theme. It has flickr intergration, digg integration, and extras section, recent comments, and other great features. When a user views the home page the newest post is written at the top of the page. This is the whole post and not just the excerpt. Following this [on the home page only] comes the extras section [flickr, digg, links]. Directly following this is the past posts sections which list the excerpts of your past posts. The theme makes use of a ‘top’ sidebar and a ‘bottom’ sidebar. The top sidebar will contain the most recent comments, and when appropiate the flickr albums. The bottom sidebar lists the categories, the archives calendar, the archives monthly, an xhtml validator link, and the feeds. When archives are viewed the extras section is moved to the bottom just below the footer. This theme will list your parent pages inside the header image. It contains all new colorfull icons that are open source, as well as the digger logo. Please use the comments page for the theme to list any problems.

That’s it, go and download this theme, what are you waiting for?

it hurts

It hurts, it hurts real bad when I hear you say that you sleep with him every night. Tears flood this keyboard, and as I type they spalsh out and onto the backs of my hands. Everything is pain. Everything is pain.

[Edit]

As much as it does hurt. It is worth it. I am following my heart, and I know it will not lead me astray. Truly do I love Michelle [ma belle] and thusly my she holds sway over thine heart. Thanks to all who help me along the way with good words of encouragment. As some say: “With the pendulum swung so far, it takes quite a while for it to come
back, if indeed it’s going to ” So wait I shall.

Comments Please

Hello Everyone!!!

I am writting this post to ask for any comments, problems, or general feedback on my new theme before I release it into the wild wild word of wordpress themes. I don’t want to release it until it is strong enough to survive on its own. So please send your feedback.

Thanks!!!!

Another Cool Horoscope

Here is another great horoscope from Free Will Astrology. What is perhaps most interesting about this horoscope is the fact that once I do get to sleep I generally sleep for 10+ hours and dream heavily. Crazy stuff:

According to conventional measures of success, filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan is a successful man. His movie The Sixth Sense is one of the top 25 money-makers in history, and three of his other films have grossed more than $200 million apiece worldwide. And yet he places a supreme value on reverie. “My life is about finding time to dream,” he has said. I urge you to make that your motto, Leo. The progress of your most practical ambitions later in 2006 will depend on whether or not you spend the next few weeks tapping into information that’s available through fantasies, meditations, dreams, and other altered states.

Dreams

Last night I had a very sad dream. Basically it consisted of my current situation with Michelle. She was moving out of town, with someone else, and turning me down. I was crying, sobbing, and screaming. In the dream I hid behind the headboard of a hotel bed and cried. The dream did not finish. I woke myself up I was so depressed.

I hope real life turns out better than this. I still believe that Michelle is the one for me. Maybe I’m foolish, maybe I’m stupid, but I’m a believer and very much in love with her.

Problems

Some of you might have noticed that this site was seemingly not working for the past three hours. Sorry about that. The problem was with my connection to my web host and thusly I have found a work around. For now everything is back up and running.

I have the new theme mostly finished. There are a couple of things that I would like to fix:

  1. If current page is the archives, then don’t list the most recent post, only list the requested archives. Also list the flickr/digg section at the bottom just before the footer.
  2. Fix some of the colors of the site, specifically some greys that do not yet match up.
  3. Add an overall content container so that the actual content and sidebar have better margins and padding. This will make the sidebar somewhat smaller, but there is room, and this will improve the visual structure of the theme.
  4. Fix some minor problems with the new logo in the header image.
  5. Incorporate the blog title and tagline into the header, so that when made public this information is available to those who do not wish to make a new fancy header image.
  6. Add some fun icons to the sidebar, perhaps add a very light grey background image to the main post, and a secondary image to the past post section.
  7. Ask for feedback and fix new bugs.
  8. Release into the wild.
  9. Rejoice.

Upgrading

Hello everyone.
Just a note:

I’m about to update this blog with the new version of wordpress and hopefully a brand new theme! I will be working out any kinks so please be patient.
The theme I’m working on and currently using is called Pictured Blues. It includes some plugins and is partly based off of prebuilt. I will make this theme available to the public as soon as I finish the little touches and get it tested for a week or so. Let me know if you have any problems at all.
Thanks,

John
